Éste, no obstante, pese a mostrarse educado y cordial en todo momento con Starling, se rehúsa a ayudarla con el caso, y ella acaba por abandonar el lugar....

Au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les Alliés mettent en place le premier procès de l'Histoire à Nuremberg condamnant à mort les plus hauts responsables nazis encore en vie. Pourtant, au début des années 60, l'Allemagne veut oublier, et nombreux sont encore ceux qui ont réussi à échapper aux mailles du filet. Il y a aussi ceux qui n'ont pas été inquiétés car ils sont devenus utiles à certains pays vainqueurs (von Braun, Brunner, Papon, Bousquet...)

Simon Wiesenthal, rescapé des camps de la mort, l'avocat et historien Serge Klarsfeld, fils d'un déporté juif assassiné et sa femme Beate Klarsfeld, une Allemande non juive, se lancent dans ce qui deviendra plus de 30 ans de traque des nazis encore en fuite ou tout simplement vivant en Allemagne.

Ainsi seront démasqués et jugés le chef SS Hagen, devenu directeur commercial, Lischka, l'homme de la Gestapo, Heinrichsohn, le gardien du camp de Drancy devenu maire en Bavière, Walter Rauff, Barbie, le chef de la Gestapo de Lyon et le Préfet Papon.

Le film relate le suspense de cette longue traque, la persévérance de l'exploration minutieuse de registres et de fichiers comme le courage physique pour affronter les Etats complices et leurs polices, les colis piégés et les bombes.

Et surtout il s'appuie sur une recherche d'archives qui renvoie systématiquement les bourreaux à leurs crimes, les images des procès et des exécutions à celles des forfaits, l'heure du jugement à celle du passé. Dans un souci de transmission et de mémoire, il revient en images sur le nazisme, son idéologie et son œuvre de mort.

Based in part on his own adolescent experiences, the film follows young Halfouine, a thirteen year-old boy whose baby face hides his already burgeoning sexuality. Unfortunately, Halfaouine's deeply conservative neighborhood, he resides in a very old section of Tunis, strictly forbids sexual curiosity. However, his young looks give him the chance to keep going to the Turkish bath with his mother, where he watches in amazement as the women of the town unselfconsciously lounge naked in his presence. Unfortunately, he is soon banished from the bath for staring at a local beauty. So, Halfouine's interests turn to a young orphan girl comes to stay with his family, beginning a relationship that changes the course of his life.
