An satire on "petty" bourgeois American values, John Waters brings his own distinctive madness to the screen by focusing on cardboard cut-out caricatures of pop culture Americana.

Waters has here turned his gaze on an archetypally perfect housewife and mother from the Baltimore suburbs in Maryland. Beverly is supportive of her loving husband and teenage kids, possesses a real talent for cooking, & appears to be everything a stable & hard-working businessman and his children could want in a wife and mother.

There is a slight catch, however. Bev is also a serial killer.
